|Simple Ways to Make Money in College
September 26, 2013
A big concern for many college students is how to make money while in school. Some students take on campus jobs, some take paid and unpaid internships, some start a company, and others do none of these. College is expensive, so it is important as a student to have some fixed income to make the experience more manageable. Here are a few simple ways to make extra money while in school:
Sell Textbooks – The buying and selling of textbooks is a larger market than you may think. Sometimes the campus bookstore will not give you the best price, so selling your textbooks online on sites like BookScouter.com, Amazon.com, and BigWords.com can get you a better price.
eBay – Have any extra items around your dorm room or at home? It is a good idea to gather these up and list them on the largest auction site online. You would be surprised what people will buy, and eBay is a great place to sell the things you don’t need anymore.
Recycle - Ever looked into a college trashcan? Then chances are you have seen a large amount of cans and bottles. Grabbing a few friends to go and sort, collect, and drop off these aluminum cans and plastic bottles is a relatively easy way to make a few extra bucks. Not to mention you will be cleaning up the campus and helping the environment. Parties and the dorms are good places to start.
Use Fiverr.com - Fiverr.com is a website where you make $5 at a time for offering the services of your special talents or skills. Your services could include writing a poem for someone, making a YouTube video, blogging about a person or band, programming and more. Fiverr takes $1 and the rest gets paid to you via PayPal.
Edit Resumes or Essays - Do you have a knack for grammar? Editing the resumes and essays of friends and classmates can be a great way to make some money. Not only do you improve your English skills, but you also improve the chance of a friend getting a better grade or a job. You might find that you start to build a referral community if you are really good.
All and all it is not easy being a broke college student, and there are ways to make money without a full or part time job. Being a student means having an entire campus to work with and may provide fun and creative ways to make money and experience the joys of college. That internship does look nice on a resume though.
